Let’s Talk: Going Natural With Bae

The Kink And I

Hello people!

How is the going going? Let’s gist today. 🙂

Last week, I saw this video on facebook. It’s called ‘The Natural Hair Song’, a parody of Breezy’s ‘Don’t Judge Me’. You should watch it. A guy sees his girlfriend after her spontaneous big chop and he just can’t take it. And so it begins: “Where the fuck is your hair? Where the fuck is your hair…”

I thought it was hilarious. I laughed plenty and proceeded to tag my friends. For starters, the guy’s blonde wig. LOL. Now I’ve thought about the video since then, and the first thing that came to me was: If I’d seen it like two years ago when I was transitioning or after my big chop, it would not have been as funny. This video has had me laughing for weeks now. When I went natural a lot of people had things to say, but my friends really supported me… Especially the non black ones. Romantically as well I got a lot of looks from guys outside my race.. And a lot of them would approach me saying my twist out, my roller set, or whatever style attracted them to me. Not in those exact words of course, but basically my hair is what drew them in. Going/returning to natural is a journey and I have embraced it now for over a year. Now that my hair is longer a lot of black guys are breaking their necks to touch my hair. So maybe it is the fear of short hair that deters them.. In any case old bae wasn’t feeling it ..(who cares) But my new bae is so I think I’m winning. It’s all me all natural every day, and that puts a smile on my face every time 🙂
